I’m John Clarke Jr., and I’ve spent my life on the water and my career in the marine repair and service industry. I’ve operated and maintained boats—sail and power—my whole life, from my father’s Pearson Vanguard to my own Bertram 31, Adams 45 cruising sloop, Peterson 34 racer-cruiser, and Wellcraft 22 center-console. I’ve owned and managed top boatyards in the Annapolis area for 30-plus years, helping customers with vessels ranging from a 70-foot Sunseeker motoryacht to a classic Herreshoff 12.5. I’ve raced dinghies in college and keelboats in world-class offshore events, including the Fastnet and Newport-Bermuda races. I’ve also taken five years away from all that and gone full-time bluewater cruising with my wife and two kids, sailing some 25,000 nautical miles and living on the hook for months at a time in remote places.

When it comes to systems, structure, repair, and problem-solving in boats, there’s little I haven’t seen or done. I’m an ABYC Certified Master Technician, a USCG 100-ton licensed captain, and I’m Wilderness Medical Associates Offshore Emergency Medicine certified.

Bottom line: I love boats and being on the water, and I have long experience and deep understanding of how complicated that can sometimes be. I also have the technical and problem-solving skills to help you and your boat sort it out.
